Social media trends can sometimes strike fear into certain users, like the latest “rip tailor.” I was worried some of the posts might be about Taylor Swift, but luckily she’s fine. But that’s not the case with her old autographed guitar, which someone bought at auction.
The “Rip Taylor” social media trend is as stupid as paying $4,000 for something just to trash it because of its political leanings, and that video is also going viral on social.
Why is Rip Taylor trending on X (Twitter)? Who was Rip Taylor?
Basically, the reason “Rip Taylor” is trending on social media is the “bizarre” term used by Minnesota Governor Tim Walz this summer to describe Republican policies in the 2024 election. It stems from an attempt to change who people associate tags with. This label has become so popular that supporters of the Republican ticket have tried to project it onto the Democratic vice presidential candidate instead.
Apparently, according to social media, FOX personality Greg Gutfeld compared Waltz to Rip Taylor, the flamboyant actor and comedian who passed away in 2019. For those who don’t know him, he was known for his peppy, confetti-filled entrances and cringe-worthy demeanor. Puns based on the numerous props he had to back them up and his uproarious laughter. Waltz’s entrance, waving to the crowd with confetti and a big hand gesture, became a meme on social media.
This is just the latest attempt to relabel No. 2 Democratic candidate Kamala Harris’ nomination as “weird.” Walz and Republican Vice President-elect J.D. Vance are scheduled to face off in the first and only vice presidential debate on Tuesday, October 1st.

This will also most likely be the last opportunity for U.S. voters to directly compare Democratic and Republican presidential candidates in the 2024 White House race. Mr. Trump and Ms. Harris were invited by CNN to a debate on October 23rd.
Harris accepted, but Trump said it was “too late” for another debate. He was widely seen as having lost the first face-to-face match on ABC in September by cleverly luring Harris into making even more outrageous statements than usual.
