September 29, 2024 (Dubai) – The United Arab Emirates on Sunday accused Sudanese forces of bombing its ambassador’s residence in Khartoum. It said it would lodge a formal complaint with the United Nations and regional organizations.
The UAE Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the attack by Sudanese military aircraft caused “significant damage” to the building. He did not say when the incident occurred.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will submit a letter of protest to the Arab League, the African Union and the United Nations against this attack by the Sudanese Armed Forces, as it is a serious violation of Sudan’s fundamental principles of inviolability. It is a diplomatic facility,” the statement said.
All foreign missions left Sudan’s capital in April 2023 after fighting broke out between the army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF). Most moved to Port Sudan on the east coast.
Sudanese forces are currently carrying out large-scale attacks on RSF positions in Khartoum, accusing the RSF of looting and attacking foreign embassies in Khartoum.
Relations between the UAE and Sudan have deteriorated since the conflict began, with the Sudanese military accusing the UAE of supporting the RSF. The UAE denies these allegations.
The UAE’s ambassador to Sudan left the country after the fighting began, and a number of personal escorts departed this month. However, an embassy remains open in Port Sudan.
Sudan has lodged a complaint with the UN Security Council alleging evidence that the UAE supplied arms to the RSF via Chad. The UAE dismissed the allegations as “completely false and baseless.”
Both countries also expelled each other’s diplomats earlier this year.
