The United Arab Emirates (UAE) claimed that Sudanese forces attacked its ambassador’s residence in a “heinous attack”.
Aiu UAE Foreign Ministry said in a statement early Monday that there was extensive damage to homes in Sudan’s capital Khartoum.
The ministry also “stressed the importance of protecting diplomatic facilities and the residences of embassy personnel in accordance with treaties and customs regulating diplomatic relations.”
Sudan’s military has not yet commented on the UAE’s claims, but has previously accused the country of funding and arming the rival Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia.

This comes after the Sudanese army launched a new offensive on Khartoum last week, leaving at least four civilians dead in the Kalari district in fighting between the Sudanese army and the RSF.
RSF forces have been at war with Sudanese forces since April last year after the two countries fought over status ahead of an internationally-backed transition to civilian rule.
The UAE denies supporting the RSF, but sanctions watchdogs say there are credible accusations that it provided military support.

Since the start of the war, the United Nations has said nearly 25 million people, half of Sudan’s population, are in need of aid, facing famine and about 8 million people have been forced to flee their homes.

Sudan is also experiencing a cholera outbreak after heavy rains caused flooding. As of last Thursday, there were about 15,000 cases in 10 states.
