Prime Minister Jeremiah Manele left for the United Arab Emirates (UAE) last Friday afternoon.
Prime Minister Manele will arrive in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the UAE, to participate in the opening of our country’s embassy. The UAE has become one of our important bilateral partners and we share areas of common interest.
The opening of the embassy symbolizes our country’s confidence and trust in our bilateral relationship with the UAE and provides an opportunity for our country to explore areas of cooperation with the UAE.
The UAE’s new embassy is headed by Cornelius Wallegalea, a former Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade.
The prime minister will visit Saudi Arabia as a state guest after the opening of the country’s embassy in Abu Dhabi.
Saudi Arabia is an important bilateral partner for the Solomon Islands, and this state visit will further strengthen ties with Saudi Arabia.
The Prime Minister will use this opportunity to acknowledge Saudi Arabia’s grant aid of SBD 58 million for the successful hosting of the 2023 Pacific Games.
Other areas of cooperation are also likely to be pursued, such as strengthening people-to-people ties, agriculture, fishing, and other business and trade opportunities.
The prime minister is scheduled to return to Japan on October 7, 2024.
