YouTube has announced a price increase for its Premium memberships in India, affecting all subscription plans.
The new price for YouTube Family plan is ₹299 per month, up from the previous ₹189. The plan allows up to five members to share one subscription. YouTube informed users that the price increase is aimed at maintaining and improving the quality of its service, as well as supporting content creators on the platform.
Along with the family plan, YouTube’s student plan has also seen a 12.6% increase in price, from Rs 79 to Rs 89 per month. YouTube’s personal plan has also seen a 15% increase in price, now costing Rs 149 per month from Rs 129 previously.
Prepaid plans will also be affected by the price increase. The new rates are as follows:
Personal prepaid monthly: ₹159 (up from ₹139)
Personal prepaid quarterly: ₹459 (up from ₹399)
Personal prepaid annual fee: ₹1,490 (up from ₹1,290)
These updated prices are applicable to both new subscribers and existing premium users.
YouTube Premium offers perks like ad-free streaming, high bitrate streaming in 1080p, offline downloads, background playback, ad-free access to YouTube Music, etc. The platform has over 100 million subscribers worldwide.
In comparison, other streaming services in India offer different pricing structures: Spotify Premium costs Rs 119 per month for individuals, Rs 179 per month for the family plan (including up to six accounts), and Rs 59 per month for students.
Apple Music will be priced at Rs 149 per month, while the Apple One plan will be available for Rs 195 per month and includes Apple Music, Apple TV, Apple Arcade and 50GB of iCloud+ storage. The Apple One Family plan will cost Rs 365 per month and offer up to 200GB of iCloud+ storage for up to five members.
