YouTube has increased the price of its premium subscription service in India, which offers perks such as an ad-free experience.
This adjustment applies to all plans, including individual, family and student plans. The extent of the price increase varies by plan, with some plans seeing only small increases and others seeing larger increases.
At this time, it is unclear whether existing subscribers will be given a grace period before being obligated to pay the new subscription fees.
The revised pricing of YouTube Premium is already reflected on the platform’s official website. Both prepaid and subscription plans have been updated. For the subscription individual plan for a single user, the monthly fee has increased from Rs 129 to Rs 149. The family plan, which allows up to five users to share the benefits of YouTube Premium, has seen a significant increase in price from Rs 189 to Rs 299 per month.
Despite the price hike, the student plan remains the most affordable option to watch ad-free videos, but its price has also been adjusted slightly from Rs 79 to Rs 89 per month. Similar price revisions have also been made to prepaid plans that do not auto-renew. Details of the revised rates for each plan are as follows:
Student plans have gone up by Rs 10 from Rs 79 to Rs 89 per month. The personal plan now costs Rs 149 per month, up by Rs 20 from the previous Rs 129. Family plans have seen the biggest price increase, increasing by Rs 110 from Rs 189 to Rs 299 per month. Prepaid personal plans have also been adjusted, with the price of the monthly option increasing by Rs 20 from Rs 139 to Rs 159. Quarterly prepaid plans have gone up by Rs 60 from Rs 399 to Rs 459, while the annual prepaid plan is now priced at Rs 1,490, up by Rs 200 from the previous Rs 1,290.
