You may not know this, but X (formerly Twitter) already uses X’s posts to train its Grok AI models by default. An X user (h/t @EasyBakedOven) found a Grok data sharing page in X’s settings that is on by default, which says “Make your Grok interactions, inputs, results, and even posts available for training and fine-tuning” and the setting is on.
What’s worse is that Musk’s X did not ask for user consent or even notify users before enabling AI training for X posts. Not only that, the setting to disable AI training is not available in the X app. To disable it, you have to go to the web version of X. Besides X posts, chats and interactions with Grok AI can also be used to train the AI model.
Grok’s help center page goes on to say: “We may use user interactions, inputs, and results on X Post and/or Grok for training and fine-tuning purposes to continually improve the user experience. This also means that when you interact with Grok, your interactions, inputs, and results may be used to train and enhance the system’s performance.”
If you want to disable AI training for X posts, follow these steps:
Disable Grok AI training on X posts
Currently, it’s not possible to disable AI training for posts via the X app. To turn off AI training, you’ll need to go to the web version of X. Here’s how to do it:
You can also open Settings & Privacy > Privacy & Safety > Grok, where you can turn off AI training for X Posts.
Here’s how to opt out of AI training for X posts. Tech companies are increasingly using user data to train AI models, most of the time without user consent. Recently, we found out that Meta trains its AI on Instagram and Facebook photos. Only after the training has been performed, Meta notifies all users, making the opt-out process unnecessarily complicated.
