Elon Musk himself confirmed that the X/Twitter block button will be removed, but social media users are not happy.
With this change, if the account is public, the blocked account will not be able to interact with the user who blocked it, but the account’s posts will still be visible to the blocked user.
The news was posted on the social media platform by Nima Ouji and was confirmed by Musk himself.
“It’s about time this happened,” Musk said. “The block feature blocks the account from engaging with public posts, but it doesn’t block them from viewing them.”
However, many X/Twitter users are not happy with the change and have made their feelings clear in response to Musk’s comments.
One person said: “I think this is a bad idea. There could be many reasons why certain individuals would not want their public posts to be easily seen. Unfortunately, there are some really bad actors on social media.”
“It makes blocking someone pointless,” another person commented.
Some are concerned that this could lead to other accounts “stealing posts for engagement purposes.”
“I don’t want all those weirdos I blocked to see what I post,” tweeted another user.
Others noted that this would put the safety and security of some people on the platform at risk.
Another simply commented: “We don’t want this.”
Some people may want to look at polls of social media users.
“There’s a reason all social media platforms have blocking features,” another person pointed out.
One person said: “Worst idea since they rebranded.”
Another said: “Elon, there are young single women on this app who live alone and are being bullied, sexually harassed, and receiving direct threats of rape, violence, and even death. Some of these women have children to protect. For their safety, a full block as before is best.”
