The outage lasted for several minutes on Wednesday, causing pages to stop loading, with many users seeing the message “Something went wrong. Please refresh the page.”
According to outage tracking website Downdetector.com, 915 reports of outages were recorded in India at 9:15 a.m. Indian Standard Time. In the United States, about 36,000 outages were reported at 11:15 p.m. Eastern Standard Time (8:45 a.m. Indian Standard Time). Downdetector also noted that more than 70 percent of users experienced issues with the mobile application, while some reported problems with the web version and server connections.
At this time, Company X has not made any official statement regarding the outage, and the cause of the outage remains unknown.
Second case in one month
The latest outage follows an interruption earlier this month during a Spaces conversation between X owner Elon Musk and former US President Donald Trump, which Musk claimed was caused by a “massive” cyberattack.
X has been prone to technical issues and glitches in the past, with Elon Musk previously criticising Twitter’s code as “fragile”.
Memes flood X after blackout
After the brief outage, X users were quick to share memes poking fun at the incident, with one user writing, “People are checking Twitter to see if it’s down.”
