A growing number of Black women are suing the manufacturers of hair relaxers, claiming that they developed cancer after years of using the products. Several companies being sued say the allegations have no legal or scientific merit. NBC News’ Zinhle Essamuah reports.

Hey… it is what it is. But maybe they should've looked at the fine print ; read what was in the box; on the 🏷 labels concerning chemicals that are embedded in these products and did their research a little more. 🫵🏾🤡🤚🏾
In the UK, the government attempted to ban the amount of lye or other similar chemicals used in hair relaxers for black women. This was many years ago. But stylists and salon owners complained that they their businesses would suffer if they could not have access to chemicals that would straighten hair sufficiently. The percentages of these chemicals that the government proposed to permit was not sufficient to straighten the hair as much as women desired. Because of these complaints, the ban was not enacted.
This is old and I haven't used enough for them for something to go wrong.
I did not listen when my sister told me about the link years ago and stopped using hair relaxers on my own.
I limit the straightening comb and even blow dryers now. And braids forget about them-they itch and too many people lose their edges.
I am glad all these women are alive and kicking
💬 restricted access to other less damaging hair straightening routines, maybe controlled
Black men have been saying for years to get the relaxer and weave out of your heads and you did not listen. It is unfortunate what has happened here.
WE DID NOT KNOW THIS BACK THEN AT ALL.
They eat well
Formaldehyde is in air fresheners. And these women are suing because they got cancer after using hair relaxers that contain the carcinogen, formaldehyde. If putting it on your hair and scalp is bad, how much worse is it to inhale it into your lungs? How many cancers could be prevented?
When you have to put Vaseline on your scalp, so the straighteners don't burn it, there might be something to that… just maybe.
I’m a 32 year old mixed male Hispanic/black. Please, my people of color. Go to the doctor and get regular check ups. Please. I beg you. You have to advocate for yourself. Doctors are not always right. Get blood work done regularly, like I do. There’s nothing better than knowing all your lab results came back normal. Good luck everyone.
It aint the hair products. It's a you ain't eating right problem. Lets keep it 💯
…or they could just choose not to use the stuff. I guess that wouldn't make them rich though.
