Sony Pictures Entertainment (SPE) announced that Ravi Ahuja, currently Chairman of Global Television Studios and SPE’s President and Chief Operating Officer, will become Sony Pictures Entertainment’s President and Chief Operating Officer (SPE). announced a major leadership personnel change, including promotion to CEO.
The changes will take effect on January 2, 2025, as Ahuja will replace Tony Vinciquerra, who has decided to step down as CEO. However, Mr. Vincichella will remain as non-executive chairman and advisor until the end of December 2025.
Who is Tony Vinciquerra?
Tony Vinciquerra joined Sony Pictures Entertainment in June 2017 and led the company through a period of major change.
During his tenure, SPE had five consecutive years of increased profits. This success was driven by strengthening its film base, reinvigorating its TV business, and strategic M&A, including the notable acquisition of anime streaming company Crunchyroll in 2021.
Under Mr. Vinciquerra’s leadership, SPE also made important decisions, including selling most of its international cable networks and choosing not to launch a general entertainment streaming service. These moves have helped SPE maintain profitability amid rapid changes in the media and entertainment industry.
Kenichiro Yoshida, Chairman and CEO of Sony Group Inc., praised Vincichella’s contributions to SPE, saying, “Without Tony’s deep experience and expertise in the entertainment field, we would not have been able to continue working in the past 10 years.” SPE’s incredible recovery for the year would not have been possible.”
He also said that Vincichella’s strategic decisions were key to making SPE a core part of Sony’s overall entertainment strategy.
Tony Vinciquerra’s career before joining Sony Pictures
Prior to joining SPE, Mr. Vinciquerra held senior positions in the media and entertainment industry. From 2011 to 2017, he served as a senior advisor in the technology, media and communications division of Texas Pacific Group (TPG).
At TPG, his focus was on capital investment, growth opportunities, and the impact of digital and emerging technologies on the distribution and consumption of film and television content.
Mr. Vinciquerra’s career at Fox spanned nearly 10 years, from 2001 to 2011. During that time, he served as chairman and CEO of Fox Networks Group, News Corporation’s largest operating division.
The group included Fox Television Network, Fox Cable Networks, Fox Sports, Fox International Channels, and their affiliated online businesses. He also oversaw Fox Networks Engineering & Operations as well as News Corporation’s professional sports teams and entertainment venue interests.
Mr. Vinciquerra joined Fox in December 2001 as president of Fox Television Networks, was later named president and CEO of the Fox Networks Group in 2002, and became chairman in 2008. He was inducted into the Broadcast and Cable Hall of Fame in 2009.
Prior to working at Fox, Vinciquerra held key leadership positions at various media companies. He served as Executive Vice President and COO of Hearst Argyle Television from 1997 to 2001, and prior to that served as Executive Vice President of CBS Television Group from 1995 to 1997.
Mr. Vinciquerra also held leadership roles at KYW-TV in Philadelphia and WBZ-TV in Boston, where he began his television career.
