It’s been a volatile week for the stock market — the Dow Jones Industrial Average was the only one of the three major indexes (^DJI, ^GSPC, ^IXIC) to post a weekly gain — but individual investors don’t seem to mind, Investopedia Editor-in-Chief Caleb Silver told Yahoo Finance.
Based on Investopedia’s Sentiment Index, Silver believes that overall the stock sell-off may not have lasted long enough to really be noticed by retail investors. “Even though there have been these lulls, this rotation has been very healthy, and I think investors who have been through several cycles know this. They know that increased market breadth is actually a good thing for the overall health of a bull market,” Silver says.
So what are Investopedia readers interested in right now? The election, Silver notes, “It’s not necessarily about who wins as much as it is about what kind of turmoil we might see before and during the election.” He also notes that they’re interested in debt levels by president, inflation rates by president, and small-cap investing.
