Vince Staples appeared to grudgingly respond to the debate over whether he or J. Cole is the better MC amid a fierce debate on Twitter.
It’s unclear how the dispute began, but Twitter (X) users tweeted enough that both J. Cole and Vince Staples became trending topics on the platform. Comparing the two rappers’ entire discographies and contrasting their lyrical styles point-by-point, rap Twitter fans sparred over which of the two is currently the more revered legend.
But early on in the debate, the Long Beach rapper seemed to have stumbled into the spirited debate after realizing he was being talked about, and he responded to the discussion with frustration and anxiety.
“Yo n##### need jobs,” Vince wrote in the first tweet, before continuing with another, “I’m super passionate about Hip Hop but I’ve never seen you freaky n### breakdancing.”

Overall, it’s hard not to sympathize with Vince, considering the majority of opinions in this debate have revolved around personal opinions rather than true constructive criticism of either MC. In fact, one of the early opinions that started this debate essentially positioned Vince as a less talented rapper than J. Cole.
“Vince Staples is not better at anything than J. Cole,” wrote user @AllRapTakes. In a tweet. “I’d rather listen to the top half of Cole’s discography than Vince’s (because people love to use Discogs as an excuse).”
Another user countered, “Vince makes better albums, comes up with better concepts and unique productions.”
Some users speculated that the root of these comparisons stems from J. Cole’s fans not respecting him as a great artist.
“The disrespect towards J Cole on this app is insane. ‘I’m a J Cole fan but…’ you’re not a fan. If you were a fan you would respect his name and no random motherfucker would say they forgive him ‘in every way’,” one user tweeted.
Others decided to point out other rappers to prove their point, including one tweeting, “Vince Staples definitely has a better discography than Cole. Same with Schoolboy. Same with a lot of rappers lol.”
Overall, the event devolved into one giant digital skirmish over which artist makes better music, fueled by subjective, watered-down, mutually concessionary retorts armed with the discographies of J. Cole and Vince Staples.
