UNLV is interested in selling Sam Boyd Stadium to Clark County for $5 million.
It is on the agenda for the board’s Sept. 5th and 6th meetings.
UNLV spokesman Tony Allen said the sale of Sam Boyd Stadium is on the table and could be back on the board’s agenda within six months.
“Out of respect for the board and the discussion on this matter, I typically refrain from doing interviews before the board,” Allen said Monday.
“We will bring this matter back before our board of directors and discuss it further at an upcoming meeting and likely take some action within the next six months,” Allen told LVSportsBiz.com today.
Sam Boyd Stadium will be operational again for the football game between UNLV and Louisiana Tech.
As for Clark County, county spokeswoman Jennifer Cooper said she couldn’t comment.
Clark County has two very large parks not far from UNLV’s old football stadium, which also once hosted motorcycle races, monster truck events, and Grateful Dead concerts: Wetlands Park to the north, and Silverbowl Park almost across East Russell Road.
LVSportsBiz.com is suggesting Clark County purchase Sam Boyd Stadium and tell them to move the Las Vegas Grand Prix race off the Strip and into the stadium, just like F1 races at Miami Dade County’s Miami Dolphins Stadium. Just kidding, folks.
However, it would be a good idea to combine the stadium site with Silverbowl Park to create a giant sports complex.
