The United Arab Emirates, the United States, Switzerland, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Egypt, the African Union and the United Nations issued the following joint statement on Sudan to mark World Humanitarian Day:
“We began today with a moment of silence to mark World Humanitarian Day. We want to pay tribute to the commitment of our fallen humanitarian workers by continuing to work together in Switzerland to reopen key transport routes for food and medicine to reach the millions of people facing hunger and severe hunger inside Sudan. Since April 2023, at least 22 aid workers have been killed and at least 34 injured or wounded while on duty in Sudan. This is unacceptable.”

“We stand in solidarity with all humanitarian workers in Sudan and international aid workers who are working tirelessly every day, often facing immense danger, to help people in need across the country,” the statement added.
“We urgently call on all parties to this terrible war to protect civilians and aid workers, and to respect their obligations under international humanitarian law as reaffirmed in the Jeddah Declaration. We who are gathered here are committed to ‘act for humanity’ and we urge all parties to this conflict to do the same,” the joint statement said.
