September 30, 2024 (Rab Dhabi) – A United Arab Emirates diplomat on Monday reiterated the accusation that Sudanese forces bombed the UAE ambassador’s residence in Khartoum, triggering a wave of condemnation from Gulf states and Egypt.
“Our country condemns in the strongest terms this blatant attack by the Sudanese military,” said Sheikh Shakbut bin Nahyan, UAE Minister of State. He emphasized that the UAE rejects the continued attacks on civilians by warring factions in Sudan.
Sudan’s foreign ministry and military spokesperson denied the allegations and asserted the military’s right to defend territory and maintain national security.
Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the alleged attack as a violation of international law. Jordan also condemned the incident, calling it a “serious violation of international law and an attack on the sanctity of diplomatic facilities protected by the Vienna Convention.”
Oman’s Foreign Ministry condemned the attack as a “clear violation of the diplomatic charter, norms and immunity.” Bahrain echoed these sentiments, expressing its “strong condemnation” and underscoring its solidarity with the UAE.
Gulf Cooperation Council Secretary-General Jassem Mohamed Al-Budawi condemned the incident as a “blatant attack”.
Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed concern over recent developments in Sudan, stressing that targeting diplomatic facilities violates international law and the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.
