Washington DC, September 24 (ANI/WAM): UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan visited Children’s National Hospital in Washington DC and was briefed about the hospital’s pioneering work in pediatric surgery and medicine.
The UAE has been a long-standing supporter of the hospital and the visit reflects its ongoing commitment to improving healthcare for its young patients. The hospital’s Sheikh Zayed Pediatric Surgical Innovation Institute was made possible through a US$150 million contribution from the UAE, and the opening of the National Pediatric Research and Innovation Campus was supported by a further US$30 million.
During his visit, he met with senior officials and medical staff and visited many of the hospital’s specialized departments. The briefing also included a detailed look at the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit’s command center, which uses advanced artificial intelligence technology to monitor patients and identify critical events, such as cardiac arrest, before they occur. The command center also enables surgeons and cardiologists to conduct remote medical consultations with doctors around the world, including at the UAE field hospitals in Abu Dhabi and the Gaza Strip.
He also learned about the latest groundbreaking innovations being developed at the Sheikh Zayed Institute, such as a miniature pacemaker designed for babies and young children. He first saw the pacemaker prototype in 2019, and today, thanks to the UAE’s investment, the device is being used in more than 40 pediatric patients, including five newborns.
The President met with Emirati children being treated at the hospital and spoke with them and their families, inquiring about their health and recovery. He wished the young patients a speedy recovery and prayed for their quick return home, stressing the UAE’s commitment to safeguarding the health of its people.
The children and their families thanked the UAE President for his visit and expressed their appreciation for the care they are receiving.
His Highness was accompanied on the visit by Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chairman of the Presidential Court for Special Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Thanoon Al Nahyan, Presidential Adviser for Special Affairs, Ahmed Al Mazrouei, Director of the President’s Office of Strategic Affairs at the Presidential Court for Special Affairs, and Yousef Al Otaiba, UAE Ambassador to the United States.
