Bayanat, a leading provider of AI-powered geospatial solutions and a subsidiary of G42, confirmed that the launch of the Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) satellite, named “Foresight-1”, is the first satellite in the UAE’s Earth Observation Space Programme and a significant achievement strengthening the UAE’s global leadership in the space sector.
Bayanat Managing Director Hassan Al Hosani told Emirates News Agency (WAM) that Foresight 1 brings the UAE to a prestigious list of 20 countries around the world that operate SAR space assets, strengthening the country’s position in the space sector and helping to grow its capabilities in the field.
He noted that the strategic roadmap drawn up by Bayanat and the Al-Yar Satellite Communications Company (Yasat) is based on deploying a constellation of satellites equipped with SAR technology in the near future.

He explained that since the initial announcement to launch an Earth observation space program in 2023, the two companies have been implementing a strategic plan for the Earth observation system, starting with the Foresight 1 satellite.
“The successful launch of the Foresight-1 satellite now allows us to operate a space asset that is prepared to make repeated passes over the Middle East region in record time,” he added.
He said the unique feature of the Foresight-1 satellite is that it provides continuous, high-resolution monitoring solutions using SAR technology, an active sensing system that illuminates the Earth’s surface and measures the reflected signal to provide high-resolution images.Unlike traditional optical imaging satellites, SAR satellites can take images day and night, regardless of weather and sunlight reflection.
He said the technology will enhance disaster management, maritime monitoring and smart mobility applications, as well as improve the quality of geospatial solutions and services offered by Bayanat and Yasat.
He noted that more than 30 percent of the Earth observation space programme are made up of UAE nationals, reflecting a commitment to developing a highly qualified national cadre in one of the most important sectors.
The merger between Bayanat and Yasat is expected to be completed by the end of this year, subject to final regulatory approvals in the UAE and internationally.
He noted that the merger will establish Space 42 as a leading UAE company in the space sector with a global presence and support the country’s efforts to achieve the directions of the National Space Strategy 2030.
Al Hosani stressed that Space 42 will continue on this path to achieve the goals of the National Space Strategy 2030 and support the country’s efforts to develop space capabilities, support national security, enhance innovation, encourage international cooperation, drive economic growth, and enhance urban development through space technology.
