The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has been ranked among the top 10 of the world’s most powerful passports for the first time in the 2024 Henley Passport Index.
The world’s ninth-largest country allows visa-free entry to 185 countries and territories through its passport.
Since the Henley Passport Index began in 2006, the passport has risen 53 places in the rankings and added 152 destinations, an impressive improvement from 62nd place.
“This is a game changer,” said Jürg Steffen, chief executive of Henley & Partners, which puts together the index.
“This is the result of a deliberate and concerted effort by the Emirati government to position the UAE as a global hub for business, tourism and investment.”
“Our research consistently shows a strong correlation between a country’s visa waiver score and economic prosperity. Countries with higher visa waiver scores tend to have higher GDP per capita, increasing foreign direct investment, and stronger international trade relations.”
