The United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the Italian Republic have approved the extradition to Italy of Italian national Danilo Coppola, who was convicted of financial crimes, following an official request, Emirates News Agency (WAM) reported on Thursday.
UAE Minister of Justice Abdullah bin Sultan Al Nuaimi and his Italian counterpart Carlo Nordio confirmed in a telephone call that the decision was in accordance with the bilateral extradition treaty between the UAE and Italy, WAM added.
The two Ministers stressed that the successful extradition of Mr. Coppola underscores the two countries’ unwavering commitment to upholding the rule of law and promoting international cooperation.
“This outcome reflects the strong ties between the UAE and Italy and demonstrates our shared determination to ensure that justice is delivered. Such a procedure confirms the continued cooperation between the UAE and Italy in the pursuit of international justice,” it noted.
“These agreements clearly demonstrate our keenness to strengthen cooperation on legal and judicial matters in line with international best practices, aiming to strengthen efforts to combat serious and organized crime,” the ministers added.
“This positive development in our judicial cooperation underlines our shared determination to ensure that those who commit crimes and seek to evade justice by seeking refuge abroad do not enjoy impunity,” the ministers said.
Furthermore, both sides underlined their commitment to provide regular updates on priority requests and maintain communication channels between the central authorities, reflecting their firm determination towards achieving fruitful judicial cooperation between the UAE and Italy and strengthening bilateral relations.
