UAE residents were reassured that no hacking or cyber attacks were detected amid a major technical outage on Friday (July 19).
Earlier in the day, the UAE’s Cyber Security Council warned users of CrowdStrike software to be careful when updating their software, following a global blackout that affected major airlines and banks, disrupted television broadcasts and affected communications.
“We wish to inform you that there is a technical flaw in the CrowdStrike software update which may affect the electronic systems of institutions that use it,” the UAE’s government telecommunications and digital regulator said in a post.
Some UAE government online services were also affected by the cyber outage that paralyzed key institutions around the world, but the Security Council reassured residents there were no signs of hacking or cyber attacks.
Authorities have urged residents to be vigilant and not fall victim to hackers exploiting this technical flaw in the cyberspace, and residents have been advised to verify information from official sources and not be misled by rumors.
