Some government employees will be allowed to work flexible hours on the first day of the new semester, allowing them to pick up their children from campus, officials announced on Thursday. Those with children in nursery or kindergarten can take advantage of the flexible hours for the entire first week of the new semester.
The Federal Office of Human Resources’ (FAHR) announcement comes as families are preparing for a new school year that starts next week for some students.

The new policy will be implemented specifically in the financial year 2024-2025, the company said.
The company added that the flexible hours also apply to important events throughout the year, from parent-teacher meetings to graduation ceremonies.
As per the notice circulated by the Federal Personnel Office to all federal ministries and organizations, flexible working hours will not exceed three hours, and these hours can be taken all at once or split into morning and afternoon shifts.
Parents with children in primary school or above will be allowed flexible working hours on the first day of the new school term.
Employees must take into account different school start dates in accordance with the school curriculum established by the competent authorities.
Flexibility in attendance and withdrawal will be allowed with the approval of the director as per the rules in force in the institution concerned, it added.
The “Back to School” policy focuses on providing the necessary flexibility in the work environment without impacting employee workflow or service delivery.
