Sudan’s military on Monday rejected accusations by the United Arab Emirates that it bombed the UAE ambassador’s residence in Khartoum, instead blaming the militia Rapid Support Forces (RSF).
Earlier on Monday, the UAE announced that its ambassador’s residence in Khartoum had been attacked by Sudanese military aircraft, condemning it as a “heinous attack”.
Sudan’s military said in a statement that these “shameful and despicable acts” were carried out by the RSF paramilitary group.
The military has repeatedly accused the UAE of arming and supporting the RSF in Sudan’s 17-month civil war. Gulf countries deny the allegations. United Nations sanctions monitors say it is a credible accusation that the UAE provided military support to the RSF.

War broke out between Sudan’s military and the RSF in April last year over the transition to free elections. The United Nations says nearly 25 million people, half of Sudan’s population, are in need of aid, facing famine and about 8 million people have been forced to flee their homes.
