Former Denver Broncos safety Justin Simmons signed a one-year, $8 million contract with the Atlanta Falcons. Here’s how some Broncos fans and pundits reacted to the news on Twitter/X:
According to sources, he had dinner on Monday night with head coach Raheem Morris and All-Pros Jessie Bates, Grady Jarrett and A.J. Terrell. #Falcons.
Now they have Justin Simmons, who has an NFL-leading 30 interceptions since his rookie year. https://t.co/A5fmJFInBJ

Justin Simmons signs with Falcons, won’t return to Denver

Mark your calendars for November 17th, when Justin Simmons returns to Denver with his new team, the Falcons. https://t.co/IJPZAqkKoi

The Falcons seem like they want to win, and you can’t blame them. On paper, they appear to have the best roster in a shaky division, and if they can find a better mix of strategy, personnel and coaching than they did last year, they could vault into a higher seed.

Justin Simmons has just one interception in 12 games against Saints QB Derek Carr, and he’s looking to add to that total after signing with the Falcons. https://t.co/KUqQuUM8tS

With the Falcons signing Matthew Judon and Justin Simmons within a matter of days, it’s easy to forget they paid $110 million for Kirk Cousins and then drafted a quarterback in the first round.

Any team that loses to the Chiefs in the postseason deserves to be scolded for not making this trade. Wow. https://t.co/l0Gc1OVUNH

Justin Simmons was drafted a year after the Super Bowl but never made the playoffs with Denver. He will likely be one of the most underrated players in franchise history, but the real players know how important he was to the team. Best of luck to the Atlanta 31s. pic.twitter.com/hmztkYZ28L

Simmons, 30, was released by the Broncos in March, saving them $14.5 million in salary-cap space. Simmons is scheduled to return to Denver when the Falcons play the Broncos in Week 11 on Sunday, Nov. 17, at Empower Field at Mile High.
Simmons entered the league as a third-round draft pick out of Boston College in 2016. He recorded 30 interceptions in eight seasons with Denver, which is the most in the NFL from 2016 to 2023. He also recorded 64 interceptions during his time with the Broncos.
A former team captain, Simmons was an elite Denver player on and off the field. Simmons was active in the community and will be missed by Broncos fans. The veteran safety is sure to receive a warm welcome when he returns to Denver this fall.
