Despite Rajesh Khanna’s legendary status and superstardom, no solid biography has been written about him.
Rajesh Khanna, the 1970s superstar who drove fans crazy by smearing lipstick on his car, writing letters in blood and marrying his own photograph, then faced a steep decline that Khanna described as “bruised” and “bled internally.” Despite his legendary status, no solid biography has been written about him.
Now, in a new video, his daughter Twinkle Khanna has rubbished questions about writing a biopic on her father. When asked if she would take up the task, she responded with a firm “No”. Twinkle maintained that she is interested in stories that have deeper layers and a message and not just the life of one person. This response has sparked a stir, with some saying it would be tough for a daughter to reveal all the details about her father’s life. She said, “I am interested in stories that have layers and have more of a ripple effect. It’s great to write a story about one person, but for that to happen, there must be layers and the story must have a message.”
Rajesh Khanna was also asked to write a biography but refused. “If I tell the truth about my life, it will bring disgrace to many people. I can’t do that,” he said.
Adding that his life is like a story with many ups and downs, he had once said, “People only know me from films and film magazines so I want people to know the other side of Rajesh Khanna. But I am yet to decide whether to write a biography or not. I want it to be very honest but it would mean naming people and sharing incidents involving other people. If I speak honestly about my life, it might hurt a few people. I don’t want to do that.”
The original Bollywood superstar, Rajesh Khanna, dominated the silver screen in the 1970s with his unmatched charisma and talent. Kaka’s star power was not limited to Bollywood, his magnetic presence captured the hearts of people across South India. Though he fell from superstardom as his career declined, his legendary status as Indian cinema’s first big star remains.
