This Mom Has A Six-Hour Daily Commute. Here’s Why She Does It. | NBC News

She could get two jobs where she lives and equal to the same pay and probably be done with her workday and commute before what she does right now
This is not living your life to the fullest but rather being in a state of subjugation just so you can live. Sacrificing your freedom and time for a job should never be worn as a badge of honor. Some would argue that this is all worth it for the pension benefits; however, life is very dynamic and if you succumb to an illness or death a year after retiring , was it really worth it? Your golden years are not so golden having to deal with severe knee arthritis, back pain, or a more serious, inevitable aging related illness.
If you drive your car for the trip it will be 3 and half hours round trip from Hemet to downtown L.A.
Sod ya kids love !
You should think of yourself and health
Thanks for the video. It inspires me to keep doing what I need to do in terms of commuting to make it. I commute two hours each way to work. So far, I've been doing well.
16 years!!
Ok, it's now 2024 … What rents like where she lives NOW??!!!
Sounds like she has a great deal on a house she owns and will be getting a decent calpers pension. Makes sense from that perspective why she does it.
My goodness do people think of the ount time they've wasted just commuting? Almost a full work spent getting to work is dumb.
Bless her heart! ❤ I pray she's having a wonderful retirement! 🙏🏽
Move someplace cheaper?
There had to be a better way. Like move to a different state. Peoples act like they have to stay in California.
She is spending 65 whole days a year commuting
What a sweet lady 🥰 I hope everything is going well for her and her family ❤️
Good for her on her retirement
It makes zero sense. There are other places to live and other jobs to be had.
I give no credit or respect to this. Sacrificing so much family time and her own time to slave. That's awful. I'm away from family 12 hours a day and I feel like crap. I'm either going to money is closer to my job or take a pay cut and leave to work closer to them
How is she doing now. When Covis, hit everything shutdown. I hope she is well.
I wanted to know about stuff like this because of a line in king of the hill
I’m glad this woman is resilient but it makes me cry to see people make these types of sacrifices to survive. It’s just not right. I wish her and her kids the best. I pray she’s enjoying her retirement.
I love my mom, she reminds me of Carolyn, I hope they're doing well.
I hope your enjoying your retirement and im praying for you
Sleeping only 4.5 hours a day is a good way to die early.
This is beyond unacceptable
How awful that she has to live like this
I commuted in the Phoenix area, when I was very seriously disabled for several years, just to hold down a job. By the time I stopped working, I was almost totally blind with a bunch of other problems.
I got up at 5:00 a.m. to get to work at 8:00 a.m., that's 3 hours of walking and taking a public bus. I would get home after work finished
Work got out at 2:30 p.m., and I would make the trip back at about 6:30 pm, stop at the sandwich store to get something to eat would be about 7, get into bed at 9:00 p.m. and do it all over again 5 days a week
Oh yeah so it's Phoenix so it's a million degrees out too
I'm glad this woman retired and at least she got to relax on the train
I made about $12,000 a year after taxes
You go Mom!!👊👊
This person is one person who would benefit from the Covid restrictions and being able to work from home
Don’t live in California lmao
There needs to be a law to end environmental reviews and zoning mumbo jumbo for housing.
Especially with 3d printed housing…
Wheres the petition, its time to sign.
Thank God she is retired now
Commuting like that fuakkkkkkkkkk nooooooooo!
Can someone please do a follow up video with this remarkable lady now that she is retired. I can't even imagine doing this commute for one day, let alone 16 years.
And Im a man and I think that I'm
TOUGH. She just showed me how weak I am. Much respect.
There are LA County offices nearer her house
What a horrible way to live.
I'm surprised she hasn't dropped dead from a heart attack yet. TBH any place in California where a two-bedroom house is $800 a month is certain to be in a ghetto area and Hemet is not a safe city. Not a good choice and she will have a lot of health problems very soon.
Well, I hope the lady and her family are living a good life 🙂
To everyone STILL complaining about her commute, she works at a local spot in town & is no longer commuting…she is thee sweetest lady there! ❤
This by a long shot is not mentally normal and neither OK. Retiring or not no one should be doing this at all. No way do I believe that there weren't other options. Some truths are being missed here.
God bless her and others like her
Hey atleast she made it to retire . please enjoy and live the best life you can . God bless her .
Body alarm…i felt that.
Regardless of the situation, NOBODY should do this to themselves.
Where is the father?!?
