Well, at least for now, it looks like the Charlotte Hornets will be staying with Bally Sports after all.
On Friday, a report surfaced from Daniel Kaplan of Awful Announcing that Diamond Sports Group, parent company of Ball Sports, had agreed to a deal to continue broadcasting games for nine NHL teams and 13 NBA teams.
“Bally Sports Regional Networks has taken a major step toward emerging from its drawn-out Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection by reaching new agreements with the NHL and NBA to broadcast the teams’ games through at least the end of the upcoming ’24-’25 season. The news was announced in court documents seeking bankruptcy court approval of the deals.”
Diamond Sports Group must reportedly put in place an exit plan under Chapter 11 bankruptcy before the end of the upcoming NHL and NBA seasons, or its current agreement will be terminated.
Hornets fans have been very harsh on Bally Sports over the years, and exclusive streaming deals for games are difficult for those who don’t have internet, don’t have a strong internet connection, or don’t want to pay the subscription fees. A local TV deal would seem like the most ideal way to go, but those discussions can’t begin until the current deal with DSG expires.
