Things continue to get worse for TCU football heading into Saturday’s rivalry game against SMU.
Horned Frogs coach Sonny Dykes was ejected from Saturday’s game after receiving two unsportsmanlike conduct penalties for arguing with a referee. TCU was trailing 41-21 early in the third quarter when Dykes was ejected.

SMU fans waved goodbye as Dykes left the stadium. It’s likely that this will be Dykes’ final appearance at Ford Stadium for the next few seasons. The TCU-SMU rivalry will end for the time being after the 2025 season. Dykes coached at SMU from 2018 to 2021 before taking over as TCU’s coach the following season.
TCU is 2-1 this season after two seasons since appearing in the College Football Playoff National Championship Tournament, but will have to make a big effort to avoid a second loss of the season. Dykes is 91-73 all-time as a head coach and 20-10 with the Horned Frogs.
The matchup, in which the winner will receive a cast iron frying pan, has regional significance in the Dallas-Fort Worth area because both schools are located in the same Texas metropolitan area.
