A teacher has been banned from teaching indefinitely after posting explicit content about himself on social media.
Peter Hoare, 34, was a teacher at Three Peaks Primary School in Tamworth, Staffordshire, from 2012 until he resigned in June 2022.
The professional conduct committee heard that parents had reported Mr Hoare’s Twitter account after he resigned that it contained posts showing pictures of genitals and sexual acts.
The profile did not contain any posts from minors and was active from August 2018 to March 2023.
The commission heard that Hoare acknowledged the account was his and that he had posted content, including videos, in a public place.
He said he opened the account for personal use in 2018 and began posting photos and videos of himself in 2020.
According to the committee’s report, Hoare said he was “dissatisfied with many elements of his life” and that the change in his job description “was a reflection of that.”
He also admitted to a charge of making comments about drug use, but it related to the use of legal “poppers” and not illegal drugs, the hearing panel said.
“Unacceptable practices”
The profile contained nothing relating to the school, but the contents made Mr Hoare “clearly identifiable”.
The report said the posts began before Mr Hoare left the school and were made “in the context of his being a teacher”.
“The committee recognised that while it was not their role to pass judgement on Mr Hoare’s private life or activities, the fact that the explicit, identifiable posts he made were public in nature was relevant to the seriousness of his conduct,” the report said.
“The committee found that a teacher who repeatedly makes posts of this nature is likely to have engaged in unacceptable behaviour.”
The report added that his conduct amounted to unprofessional conduct that could bring the profession into disrepute.
Mr Hoare was banned indefinitely from teaching in any school, sixth form college, associated youth service or children’s home in England.
The report said that due to the seriousness of the charges established against him, he has no right to apply for lifting of the prohibitory order.
