The Seattle Mariners made arguably the biggest trade splash of the season, acquiring outfielder Randy Arozarena on Thursday and relief pitcher Yimi Garcia on Friday.
Recent reports suggest the Mariners may not be done yet.
New York Post reporter Jon Heyman reports that Seattle is “believed to be in the running” to acquire Miami Marlins relief pitcher and 2024 All-Star Tanner Scott.
The Mariners aren’t the only team interested in Scott, Heyman said the Arizona Diamondbacks, New York Yankees, Baltimore Orioles, Philadelphia Phillies and Los Angeles Dodgers are also interested in signing him.

Scott would immediately become a top-two reliever if Seattle is successful in acquiring him, and in 44 appearances this season he has a 1.18 ERA with 53 strikeouts in 45.2 innings pitched, allowing just six earned runs and recording 18 saves.
The Mariners already traded Garcia for a top-tier reliever, but Seattle Times’ Adam Jude reports that Seattle needs another offensive player in the lineup and another reliable reliever, and that Andres Munoz has been great but needs help down the bottom of the order.
Seattle traded Ryne Stanek to the New York Mets on Friday to make room for Garcia (and reduce payroll), but they may need another relief pitcher for safety.
The Mariners are just getting Gregory Santos and Gabe Speer back from injury, which should help.
However, Scott will be a free agent at the end of the year, so acquiring him will be costly.
Seattle may be reluctant to give up a promising player, no matter how good, for a one-year rental, and given the offensive struggles, acquiring another hitter first rather than another team-controlled reliever for this season alone may be a priority.
