The Royals are one of many teams that have garnered a lot of interest in Miami Marlins standout reliever/closer Tanner Scott. He’s also been linked to the Orioles, Yankees, Diamondbacks, Mariners, Phillies and Dodgers, all of which are teams that are doing particularly well in the standings. No matter which team Scott goes to, he’ll surely be an added bonus to an already-strength lineup. All of these interested teams are contenders for postseason championships.
Royals interested in star closer
What the Royals Offer
Looking at what the Royals are offering in return, their top five prospects are Blake Mitchell, Ben Kudna, Frank Mosicato, Mason Burnett and Blake Walters. Mitchell is a former first-round pick who will play catcher and designated hitter. Mitchell has a 152 wRC+, 12 home runs and 20 stolen bases in 327 A-Ounce appearances. On July 11, Mitchell hit his 12th big home run of the season (425 feet). The Royals have wasted no time in maintaining their interest and interest in Scott. However, the Royals have a new top prospect in Jack Caglianone.
They have already made moves with a trade for Hunter Harvey. Royals first baseman Vinny Pasquantino commented on the importance of the remaining games in the season: “I think we’re at the point now where every game is an important game. We’ve talked all year about where we want to be, where we want to be. Here we are. We’ve got 58 games left. Every game is an important game now.”
Hot Shot Scott
Naturally, there are multiple teams interested in acquiring Scott. Since June 13, Scott has had an excellent record as a closer, not allowing any runs. Scott is also known for throwing a powerful slider that tires out opponents. He has a 6-5 record with a 1.18 ERA, 53 hits allowed and a 1.01 WHIP in 45.2 innings this season. With many teams actively pursuing Scott, it will be interesting to see where he lands. If Scott moves to the Royals, it would be a big addition to their relief corps.
