In June, Sky Sports Bayern Munich expert Florian Plettenberg highlighted that Bayern Munich were willing to sell six players if the right offer came in. That list included Matthijs de Ligt, Joshua Kimmich, Leon Goretzka, Serge Gnabry, Nosair Mazraoui and, of course, Kingsley Coman.
At the time of writing, only De Ligt and Mazraoui have been sold due to Manchester United’s spectacular double slash. Kimmich is likely to stay despite widespread interest. Along with Kimmich, Gnabry is also set to remain at the club after Desiré Douhet turned down Die Roten in favour of PSG. Leon Goretzka is also ready to fight for his place in the Bayern squad, despite knowing his role next season may be “limited”. With the points deduction system, only Kingsley Coman remains from the original six-man list, but the question arises: does he stay or does he go?
Now, according to Bild (photo by @iMiaSanMia ), PSG, who have been a headache for Bayern recently with their failed bid for Desiré Doué, may be keen to reunite with the 28-year-old winger.
Despite Desiré Doué’s refusal, Kingsley Coman remains a likely candidate for sale. Bayern would let him go even if they didn’t sign another winger. Bayern management believes they have depth in the position with Leroy Sané, new signings Mickaël Olys, Serge Gnabry and Jamal Musiala. PSG remains interested in Coman after signing Doué, as they see him as more of an attacking midfielder than a pure winger. At this point, a loan deal with an option to buy is the most likely outcome.
Coman and Gnabry were always open to sale after a season or two of inconsistent play, but the German international now seems to be the preferred option over the Frenchman.
The move seems likely as PSG continues to build a France-based team that the city of Paris can support, but after spending big on Duet, PSG may be hesitant to spend more, so a loan deal with obligations could be a viable route for the Paris-based club.
As a side note, it’s interesting to note that Mathis Tell’s name was not mentioned as a candidate for the wing positions – does Vincent Kompany only see Tell as a striker or has he simply forgotten his name?
Kingsley Coman fans might want to keep an eye on him a little longer as a transfer is now even more likely with Barcelona and PSG showing interest in him.
