Sky News military analyst Sean Bell looks at what Russia’s tactics are as it battles to contain Ukraine’s invasion into the Kursk region of Russia.
With both Moscow and Kyiv also focused on the Donbas, will Russia withdraw troops from the front line in the east to defend the region? Or let Ukraine occupy it heading into the winter?

Russia has broken Ukrainian's main defence line.
pointless western propaganda, where are the reports in western media of Zelentsky pushing EU countries to arrest Ukranian Men in EU counties who fled the war and return them to Ukraine to fight? Zelentsky has labelled these men as "Traitors" and wants them returned, also where is the coverage in western media of the "press gangs" operating in Ukraine? Remeber Ukraine is a Democracy isn't it?
But when this happens, the media supported by the fraud carried out with the dollar, must also assume that they were defeated by the Great, Magnanimous and Victorious Russian nation over the would-be global dominators.
The leader of the British Heritage Party sees the current anti-Russian course as harmful, but believes it will pass after the departure of the current US and UK leaders.
The West must restore good relations with Russia after US President Joe Biden and UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer resign from their posts, the leader of the British Heritage Party said.
Hitler have ambitions and zelinski follow in love with kursk,
Ukraine is already beaten. Ridiculous acts of desperation, like the Kursk 'invasion', are more designed to win the propaganda war than the actual physical war. Oh my, Putin is embarrassed – meanwhile, his troops in the Donbass are about to take the major strategic logistics hub of Pokrovsk (a direct result of having taken Avdiivka which, according to the Western media was just an unimportant large town of no military significance). Western 'expert' commentary on this war has always been delusional at best – the truth is getting harder to circumvent as time goes on. The Ukrainian people are finally waking up to the terrible way in which they have been used and abused by the West and the authoritarian regime that they installed in Kiev.
It is both funny and infuriating watching "analysts" try to find "hidden genius" explanations for why Putin has failed to properly respond to the Kursk incursion. I actually heard one such talking head posit that he was intentionally allowing the crisis to continue so he can motivate the Russian people to enlist or at least not resist a general mobilization.
My own take on why he doesn't is is because he can't. He has built a "military" around competing loyalties that distrust and actively sabotage one another. He has done this because he is far more concerned with internal security than he is about military effectiveness. He has more to fear from the oligarchs and siloviki than he does the Ukrainians. This is why he has replaced Gerasimov with a non military guy who used to be his bodyguard.
In such a command environment, he can't just pull units from one part of the front and move them to another without major internal political ramifications. It would be like pulling a drug dealer off a block and sending him to another city. Like I have been saying for ages. This is not a country in the normal sense of the word. It is an organized criminal conspiracy with nuclear weapons.
Or the Ukrainians are bluffing painting a picture that they do t want to stay when they do. Putin keeps his best in donbas and Ukraine armed forces surge into Kursk further.
😂😂😂 The copium is hilarious…… So it looks like Russias invasion was a "preemptive" invasion 😂😂😂 If isreal can claim attacking "preemptively" surly Russia can claim the same, 😂😂😂 losing the Donbass and it's a PR stunt….. Why aren't they helping the soilders on the front lines???
Reminds me of Germany and the battle of the bulge. Without NATO troops on the ground it’s not going to stop the Russians progress within Ukraine.
Putin‘s options? ☢️
The situation in Ukraine, especially regarding the territories of Donbass and Crimea, is complex and delicate. Below are some general considerations on steps Ukraine can take to address these issues:
Restoration of territories
International diplomacy:
Strengthening alliances: Seek continued support from allies and international organizations such as NATO and the UN to pressure Russia through sanctions and diplomacy.
Negotiations: Engage in diplomatic negotiations to find a negotiated solution that takes into account Ukrainian sovereignty and the rights of the local population.
Military actions:
Military operations: Conduct carefully planned military operations to recover territories while ensuring that civilian casualties are minimized and the laws of war are respected.
Military buildup: Increase defense capabilities with advanced technology and training provided by allies.
Reconstruction and Reconciliation:
Support for reconstruction: Develop plans for rebuilding infrastructure and support for communities affected by the conflict.
Reconciliation Programs: Implement reconciliation programs to integrate communities in restored territories and promote national unity.
Preventing the nuclear threat
Preventive diplomacy:
Negotiations with Russia: Seek diplomatic channels to reduce nuclear tensions and agree on controls.
Dialogue with Belarus and Chechnya: Maintain open communication with these actors to avoid escalation and ensure they are not used as platforms for attacks.
Preparedness and Protection:
Strengthening air defenses: Develop and deploy advanced defense systems to detect and respond to potential nuclear threats.
Emergency Preparedness: Establish emergency protocols for the public in the event of a nuclear attack, including preparing shelters and medical resources.
Sanctions and International Pressure:
Economic sanctions: Push for tough international sanctions against Russia to deter it from using nuclear weapons.
International cooperation: Work with other countries to provide a united front against any nuclear threat and strengthen international non-proliferation treaties.
A combination of diplomacy, military training and international cooperation is essential both for territorial recovery and for preventing nuclear threats.
Yeah Ukraine can’t fight so they put men to death
Buenas tardes.
No creo que Ucrania haga algo
Sin ayuda de otras naciones.
Debe ser un plan ideado con varias variantes.
Viva la Paz.
Where is reporting on the uk riots
When sky news say is unclear they mean Ukraine is loosing very bad
Ukraine forces in Russian territory have had there supplys cut off
He can leave them alone, at his own peril.
Ukraine's used up much military capital in Kursk, that is needed in Pokrovsk it seems.
All we can do is laugh at your jokes 😅😅😅
Kursk has been the scorched earth absorbent sponge for Swedish, French, German and other invaders before. It also helps draw out , overextend and trap forces for attritional responses. Winter and rainy seasons provide opportunities for air delivered solutions.
Zelynsky is modern day Winston Churchill 😂😂😂
Immigration.
Seems we found our piglet, Winnie seems to have abandoned him.
Can Russia be doing a feigned retreat? Kursk is huge region and gaps in the Ukrainian military will happen.
The Americans probably forced Ukraine to make those statements about not planning to keep the territory, unfortunately.
Hablan de ucrania como si no la mayoria no tuvieramos el conocimiento que ucrania como tal quedo rebasada desde hace mucho hoy solo ya es la Otan disfrasada de Ucrania 🤦♂️
A small area invaded by Ukrain backed up by NATO troops and Western social medias are making too much noise if Ukrainians has won the war.
A clear propaganda😂😂😅 😂😂
Ukraine’s narrative that Putin’s “Red Line” is immaterial serves no purpose and may only taunt him to prove that it is very real. Ukraine needs to dig in and maintain a corridor back into their country to keep from being encircled and cut off by the Russians. There is no place for hubris when invading a country that is, at least currently, controlled by a mad man.
Just a reminder..NUCLEAR!
" Putin evalúa sus opciones " :
1 – soga .
2 – soga .
3 – horca .
I don't think the war will stop if Russia get out of Ukraine, Ukraine want all there kidnapped people to return back to there mainland to 🙏
Russia has unleashed its new secret weapon…priests!
Putin’s OPTION is to leave Ukraine 🇺🇦💙💛💙💛
He has the option to look into his heart and do what is right…that is where the real power is. Ukraine fights for what is already theirs.
Two options 1 Get out of Ukraine! 2 Get out of Ukraine!
This operation has been a military disaster for the Ukrainians.
The wests whole objective is to embarrass Putin ? What . Right let’s embarrass Putin that’s a winning strategy. I noticed Putins face is slightly redder than usual . I think it’s working Sky News.
JohnMuirHead…."The Kremlin Gremlin". superb!
Few serious questions (just for my own knowledge/understanding):
1. Where are all the fighters of the Wagner group? They seemed quite competent so why Russia hasn't inducted them formally into its military either as frontmen or as border forces?
2. How come there were no intelligence/indication that Ukraine was amassing forces to invade the Kursk region?
3. How is the rest of the border where no fighting is taking place? defended by border security forces? ungaurded? fenced?
Biased news
This Kursk incursion by Ukraine is playing straight into the hands of the Russians. Russia will take the Donbass far quicker now that Ukraine has diverted its attention.
Ukraine will lose many of their elite forces in this Kursk meat grinder. Further to this Ukraine will never be able to hold the Russian territory they take. This is nothing more than a media Victory for Ukraine which will end in disaster for them in the long term.
NICE>That is call progress, by Russians OfCourse think how much territory they will gain in the 10 years USA planned war.
Must be a gigantic scale!
110k Ukrainian have to move as Russian advances all publicity stunt in Kursk
Sean Bell really is one of the two top notch commentators on the Ukraine-Russian war (yep, that’s what it is now, Mr. Putin).
The other stellar analyst is David Petraeus.
Propaganda shynews
Ukraine troops in Russia means less Ukrainian troops in Ukraine and it reduces the fight against the Russian troops in Ukraine.
Anybody can see the stupidity or perhaps the desperation.
Ukraine has now multiple fronts to fight and it all come down to numbers and Russia has the greatest number of troops and weapons.
On the other hand if NATO troops enter the battlefields in Ukraine, that is a different matter altogether…..It will force the Russians to either retreat from Ukraine or force them to escalate the war……
Why are these people giving russia ideas on how to fight? Dang! Not good when media does this.
An audacious act? Welcome to war
