Nationwide protests are taking place in Nigeria, as the country experiences its worst economic crisis in a generation.
Annual inflation is at its highest in almost three decades, with food prices having risen even faster.
The planned protests have commanded the Nigerian government’s attention.
President Bola Tinubu made an appeal through Information Minister Mohammed Idris Malagi, asking organisers to shelve the plan and urging them to be patient.

If African youths should rise as one people with a common problem freedom will come. 🇨🇲
Why are the bbc focusing on protests in Nigeria and not focusing on the plight of homeless British citizens in the uk
Nigerians should be protesting over open sewers and streets full of rubbish
They are killing our mother land with this imperialism shit
LET US GO✊🏽
We are suffering.😭😭😂😂
call a spade a spade . the hashtag is bad governance not economic hard which is just one of the byproducts.
From what I've learnt living in Nigeria, I have raelized that democracy is not for everyone. Nigeria's most prosperous times were under 3 military leaders, the last of whom voluntarily relinquished power to a civilian government, then things started going downhill
It's the same as in the U.S,The Government do not care about the cost of food or fuel, because they use the money they are stealing from you to pay for it!!!
Stay strong, Nigerian people
Please protect the students of Bangladesh..

Nonsense majority of those people who are saying that voted immensely for BAT. They are comedians.
Very useful country with bad governance and corruption and weak institutions, great people potential but a disgrace
Protesters should adopt the SIT-AT-HOME strategy, that's the only way the government of Nigeria will feel the heat… let's do a total lockdown in this country, that's the only way the government will listen to us
Hey guys default is she killed baby she kill 😭

Thieves in power!!! Bola Tinubus government and his cabinet were not elect6ed but rigged their way into power. To make matters worse, their incompetence, greed and tyrannical polices have left millions of Nigerians starving and thousands dead. We can no longer tolerate this.
The speaker of the senate actually came out to mock protesters saying they "can go ahead and protest while he stay in his house eating"
1. Fuel subsidy must be returned and the price of petrol and diesel reversed from N610 TO ITS ORIGINAL OF N165
2. Elected officials and their families must be banned from going abroad to study or medical care. They must be restricted to public infrastructure which they have let decay.
3. Electricity bills must be reversed to its original price
4. Cut down number of aids being used by government officials. Some have up 1000 aids each with exorbitant pays totaling billions.
5. Police, EFCC and judicial reforms
6. Fix insecurity and reduce the rate of banditry and kidnappings
7. Food and agricultural reforms
Got earphones and sound bad
These tin pot African countries would be better off using the USD rather than their own currency. Their political leaders can’t be trusted not to prioritise their own greedy self interest ahead of their country’s interests. South Africa has the same issues. African leaders ruin countries. Zimbabwe was the bread basket of Africa and then almost overnight with black leadership it wasn’t. A story that just tirelessly repeats itself.
Nigeria is recognised as being one of the most corrupt countries in the world. This is not a surprise.
Unfortunately it’s also true of western countries. They’re just better at the corruption. It’s more refined.
BBC has failed to cover the real issue of what's really going on in Nigeria at the moment, stop defending the Nigerian government because the grains they gave out has zero impact in our lives and Nigerians came out in their thousands and not a few dozens. Zero credibility BBC
Tinibu is busy sleeping

Nigeria is the 5th riches country in the world with its God giving resources but only handful of the politicians are turning the country to grave yard to the common man and less previllage

Since 2020 i can't seem to believe bbc again
Out of 200 million Nigerians, only 500 people show up for protests, others watching from the comfort of their beds😂😂. We wish to extend a helping hand from Kenya 🇰🇪
Nothing will change , this protest will have no effect on state of Nigerian Economy
Our prime minister Sheikh Hasi Na is killing our common students indiscriminately with the police and her organization. Our country's news channels are not broadcasting this. We seek the help of foreign news channels. 🙏🏻

I hope this is smart, people want the government anywhere to snap their fingers and change the world. Most policies take years to see the actual effects of…i don't really know anything about the Nigerian government, just hope they don't give up on democracy because they can't see an immediate result.
Do government agencies have any say over pricing there?
And to think they just had a false royal visit which they paid for. Now they are seeing the results
Fight for your right
What bussiness nigerians always have with the dollar 😅
Tinubu should resign, in fact its time to hand over the country to young generation.old men all over Afrika please go home!!most of you are the problem since independence all over Afrika.you made countries your personal property!its time to leave!!!pass the mantle to the young ones now!!
imagine if Nigeria was a place where all people can thrive…maybe they’d all want to stay in the country…
Go Nigeria!!!
Get rid of your western backed corrupt puppet leaders. God is always on the side of the believers
My parents talked about a time when Nigerians only traveled abroad for vacation and returned to Nigeria. The economy was booming. Currency exchange was 1:1. Now, people can’t wait to leave.
I last visited Nigeria in 2010. Lord have mercy 🙌🏽
We in the UK are rooting for the youth of nigeria …its your country take control of it.
The British, USA and EU government is creating poverty and insecurity in nigeria I hope the youths should wake from sleeping fight now or remain slaves forever😡😡
