Newcastle United opened the Premier League season with a 1-0 win over Southampton, but they still need to sign a few defenders to field a quality squad that will allow them to finish in the top four of the league table. Centre-back Schar will miss the next match after receiving a red card in the first half of the Southampton game, so Newcastle are hoping to sign Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi to strengthen their defence this season.
However, Newcastle have made a fourth bid of £65m for the 24-year-old, a fee that is unlikely to see Palace selling. Furthermore, Oliver Glasner’s side recently sold centre-back Joachim Andersen to Fulham for £30m, meaning they will need a replacement for Andersen and are unlikely to sell Guehi in the same transfer window.
Eddie Howe’s side will therefore need to look for another centre-back to strengthen their squad, and may also need to acquire a new right-back, with The Athletic recently reporting that Premier League side Everton are keen to sign Newcastle defender Kieran Trippier during the transfer window.
Despite being 33 years old, Trippier is one of the best right-backs in the Premier League. Last season, Trippier scored one goal and provided nine assists for the Magpies. At UEFA Euro 2024, Trippier made six appearances for England as they reached back-to-back UEFA Euro finals.

With just 10 days left in the summer transfer window, Newcastle should not sell Trippier to any Premier League team as Newcastle United prepare to face Bournemouth away in their next game.
