LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — Little Rock’s entertainment district celebrated its fifth anniversary on Friday.
In 2019, the board approved allowing people to walk around downtown Little Rock while drinking alcohol, under certain conditions.
It was a beautiful evening for celebration, with live music blaring down Clinton Street and people lining the streets in and out of restaurants at River Market.
“It felt good to have a few drinks and walk around,” Audreyia Eubanks said.
Audrey Eubanks and her mother, Viola, spent the evening enjoying the weather and catching up on each other’s lives.
“I think it’s a great idea to just walk around and chat with my mom while having a nice cocktail,” Audrey Eubanks said.
The entertainment district allows people to wander around downtown Little Rock while consuming alcohol, under certain conditions.
You will need to get a wristband and a special cup at a participating store.
Dugan’s Pub is one of the restaurants affected, and owner Don Dugan said it’s been a big help to business.
“It’s fun to just walk around and have a beer and not have to rush to finish it. [the drink] “Then go somewhere else,” Dugan said, “and hurry up and finish it there.”
Dugan said the effort has been so successful that last year the city approved expanding the district from Fourth Street to Cumberland Street.
However, as long as the entertainment district survives, there is one thing the owner hopes will come true.
“A lot more people are going to take advantage of it,” Dugan said. “I think some people don’t know they can come here and do it.”
