Democratic leaders are backing Vice President Kamala Harris to run for president in 2024 after President Biden announced his withdrawal on Sunday and endorsed Harris as his running mate. Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) voiced her support for Harris on Monday. She was one of several leading Democrats who have expressed growing concern about Biden’s candidacy and his ability to defeat Trump.
Although Harris has Biden’s endorsement, she still needs to receive the Democratic Party’s formal nomination from Biden’s delegates at the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Chicago next month.
“She’s raised almost $100 million in 24 hours, which makes her basically unbeatable against any other Democratic candidate,” Henrietta Treys, managing partner and director of economic policy at Veda Partners, told Yahoo Finance. “And maybe the most obvious element here is that all of her opponents, whether it’s Gretchen Whitmer or Gavin Newsom, are openly endorsing her.”
Treys was commenting on who could be chosen as Harris’ running mate in 2024, which could help her win over voters in battleground states.
