Legendary Entertainment is officially developing a Pacific Rim prequel under Eric Heisserer’s first-look TV deal.
Variety reports that under the deal, Heisserer is working with Carmen Lewis through their production company Chronology, which has inked a deal with Legendary Entertainment to “develop and oversee IP-driven and related projects” for the studio, with a Pacific Rim origin series among the first projects to be announced.
Jason Clodfelter, president of Legendary Television, said in a statement about Herseler, “Eric is a talented and prolific creator with a track record of critical and commercial success that speaks for itself. We are thrilled to begin our partnership with Eric, Chronology and Carmen to bring new content to the epic, globally popular Pacific Rim universe. We are confident that their vision will be a compelling expansion of Legendary’s popular franchise.” Herseler and Chronology also recently signed a first-look film deal with Sony Pictures.
So far in the Pacific Rim universe, Netflix has premiered two seasons of the animated series “Pacific Rim: The Black” between 2021 and 2022. The series follows the franchise’s first film in 2013 and its sequel “Pacific Rim: Uprising” in 2018. An official release date for Legendary Entertainment’s latest series has yet to be announced.
