Talk about breaking news!
A Bay Area television reporter and cameraman narrowly avoided being hit by a car while on air on Tuesday morning.
Alex Savage, a reporter for KTVU in Oakland, was providing an update on the overnight train derailment in San Nord, California, when a car involved in the accident ran off the road and headed toward Savage and cameraman Chip Vaughan at high speed.
Savage and Vaughn managed to dodge as the car ran over the curb and came to a stop in the parking lot where they were standing.
“This morning @AlexSavidgeKTVU @VaughanChip nearly died,” KTVU tweeted. “Everyone is safe. Thank you for your thoughtfulness.”
“My heart is beating so hard!” Savage tweeted. “I almost got hit by a car live on air but I’m OK. Thank you to everyone who cared.”
“It nearly hit me,” Savage said in a video posted to Facebook.
“I was looking in another direction and the cameraman yelled for me to get out of the way, so I did.
“I escaped at the last moment and my heart is still beating… I’ve never experienced anything like that in my life.”
Mr Savage also apologised to viewers for using “foul language” during the disturbance.
“I was surprised,” he said.
