Dexter is back!
“Dexter” star Michael C. Hall is making a big return to the original series.
The actor will star in the prequel series “Dexter: Original Sin” as the serial killer’s inner voice – the narrator he played in the original show – and will also star in the new, modern-day series “Dexter: Resurrection.”
The news of Hall’s appearance was announced during the show’s 2024 Comic-Con panel on Friday, before a packed Ballroom 20 saw the opening credits of the new prequel series (which recreates the original show’s shocking breakfast-making process) roll, with Hall’s appearance revealed during the closing credits.
Hall then took to the stage with the cast and showrunners to take part in a panel discussion and receive a standing ovation from the audience, at the end of which it was revealed that he’ll also be starring in an entirely new series.

“I’m pretty excited. I’m very happy,” Hall said about returning to the series in the prequel. “I can’t wait to watch this show. I’m kind of on the inside and I know what’s going to happen, but I’m really excited. I’ve spent so much time with this character, so it’ll be great to go back and fill in the imaginary void.”
When it comes to recording Dexter’s inner feelings, Hall has plenty of experience doing it for years: He previously played an older version of the character on Dexter for eight seasons from 2006 to 2013, before returning to the role in the 2021 sequel series, Dexter: New Blood.
“It’s always been hard for me to imagine where Dexter was coming from and who he was talking to,” Hall said. “There were times when I imagined Dexter being in a space where he was being shown his life and he had to justify it to some kind of ruler or something. And I think that works in the same way here.”

Special guest star Sarah Michelle Gellar moderated the panel and asked Hall and new young Dexter actor Patrick Gibson if they’ve been spending much time together already.
“I first met Patrick when I was on Zoom reading through the first two episodes,” Hall revealed. “We’d been exchanging emails. I just met him today, and we’re about the same height.”
“I’ll admit that Michael is a little taller,” Gibson said with a laugh.
“We still have time to grow up,” Hall joked. Later on in the panel, Hall retracted his statement and asked himself if he should have answered differently. “We actually grew up in the same house,” he joked.
Gibson, a self-proclaimed Dexter super fan, confessed, “Michael doesn’t know that I fell asleep to his voice many nights. This is the first time I’m sharing that with you all.”
“Dexter: Original Sin” is scheduled to premiere in December, while “Dexter: Resurrection” is set to debut on Paramount+ in summer 2025.
