Tom Holland has spoken about starring in his first Marvel movie without Robert Downey Jr., admitting that his absence made making Spider-Man: Far From Home rather emotional.
“It was really emotional. I’ve only ever worked with Robert on the Spider-Man movies and he’s a dear friend of mine. I was on FaceTime with him last night and he wished me the best. He will be missed but never forgotten.”

Holland made these comments at the premiere of Spider-Man: Far From Home, where one of the hosts asked him a rather personal question: “Do you have his special name saved in your phone?”
But far from being coy, Holland admitted he has a special nickname for the Iron Man star, proudly declaring: “He’s the godfather in my phone. He’s like RDJ’s godfather, that’s what I call him.” You can watch the full exchange below.

Holland has been very open about how much of an influence Downey has had on his career both on and off screen, recently telling Uproxx: “It was a great dynamic. [with Robert Downey Jr.] “He’s the same way off screen too. We’ve become really close. We’ve become good friends and I sometimes turn to him for advice and vice versa.”

“And for me, the relationships I have in the industry have been really great because as a young actor growing up in this world, it can be so scary and daunting. You can get bullied. So it’s nice to have people who support me and give me sound advice.”
When Spider-Man: Far From Home hits theaters on July 2nd, we’ll see Holland trying to fill the gap left by Downey Jr.
