The Tennessee Titans and other NFL teams are listening after New York Jets pass rusher Haason Reddick publicly requested a trade from the franchise.
Redick, who turns 30 next month, was traded to the Jets from the Philadelphia Eagles earlier in the offseason but has yet to participate in any OTAs or training camps this offseason in hopes of negotiating a new contract.
But talks didn’t move forward and Redick ended up sitting out, and while the Jets have publicly stated they won’t trade him, New York would be foolish not to at least listen to offers.
If the Jets paid a third-round pick to acquire him, they might be able to make such a deal happen with a fourth or even fifth-round pick — something the Titans can certainly afford and would benefit from adding a pass rusher like Redick.
Redick has recorded double-digit sacks in each of the past four seasons (2020 with the Arizona Cardinals, 2021 with the Carolina Panthers and 2022-23 with the Eagles). Redick’s 11 sacks last year were the most among any current Titans member.
The Titans have a solid interior with veteran star Jeffrey Simmons and second-round draft pick T’Vondre Sweat, but Tennessee would benefit from some rushers coming off the edge.
The Titans have been active all offseason trying to get better and improve on the football field, strengthening nearly every position except for the pass rush, so a trade for Redick makes sense.
While it may be worrisome to trade for a player in his 30s who is seeking a big contract extension that can’t be fully justified, the Titans would be stronger in a trade for Redick and should at least call the Jets and ask for a price.
