Hortman Stem Cell Institute, the UAE’s first GMP hybrid stem cell banking and molecular laboratory, has officially launched its cutting-edge services in stem cell banking, regenerative medicine, and molecular and genomics testing. This milestone marks a pivotal moment for medical innovation in the region, putting Hortman at the forefront of advanced molecular and genomics testing, stem cell banking, and regenerative medicine.

Dr. Fatma Al Hashimi, Director of the Hortman Stem Cell Institute and Chair of the Dubai Stem Cell Council (DSCC), outlined the Institute’s mission to promote sustainable healthcare through these innovative services. “Together, we will make the world a better place,” said Dr. Al Hashimi, highlighting the Institute’s commitment to providing pioneering medical solutions and improving patient outcomes.
Throughout the event, presentations highlighted the Institute’s comprehensive services, including its stem cell bank and molecular and genomics testing. The discussion highlighted Hortman’s partnerships with international research institutions to advance stem cell treatments and strengthen its commitment to personalized medicine.
A key highlight was the signing of several memorandums of understanding (MOUs) with prominent partners, including the Central Veterinary Research Laboratory (CVRL), represented by Director Ali Rida. Represented by Dr. Mohammad Al Berousi, Director of Dubai Camel Hospital (DCH). Marga and Walter Boll Institute for Cardiac Tissue Engineering (MWBL), Germany. The project will be headed by lead researcher Professor Kurt Pfannkuche. Eppendorf is represented by Akshay Kadalilae, Managing Director, Eppendorf Middle East and Africa. Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) Dubai Campus, represented by Dr. Sudhindra Shyamanna, Chancellor. The Hortman Stem Cell Institute was represented by Dr. Fatma Al Hashimi. These partnerships will accelerate the development of advanced stem cell products and further establish Hortman as a leader in medical innovation.
Dr. Fatma Al Hashimi is an accomplished project manager and stem cell consultant who heads the Hortman Institute. Project Management: With a PhD in cord blood donor recruitment, a master’s degree in molecular genetics, and a background in establishing groundbreaking medical initiatives in the United Arab Emirates, Dr. Al Hashimi is the leader of this transformative initiative. It is well-positioned to take the lead. Her leadership also led to the establishment of the Dubai Stem Cell Congress (DSCC), which will continue to raise awareness and drive progress in the field of regenerative medicine.
