NBA insider Shams Charania announced Monday that he is joining ESPN.
Charania announced that his former mentor, rival and longtime NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski has resigned from his position at ESPN to become general manager of the basketball program at his alma mater, St. Bonaventure. He announced his move to the network a few weeks after taking the job.
“I’m honored to join ESPN as ESPN’s Senior NBA Insider,” Charania wrote on social media. “I can’t wait to join the great group of colleagues at ESPN and serve sports viewers around the world.”

Charania will leave The Athletic and join ESPN. Mr. Wojnarowski and Mr. Charania previously worked as colleagues at Yahoo Sports, and Mr. Wojnarowski mentored Mr. Charania as he entered the business.
Terms of Charania’s contract with ESPN were not initially reported.
As rivals, Charania and Wojna Rouksi are two leaders in NBA breaking news, each amassing large social media followers from fans who want to stay on top of breaking news. With Wojnarowski’s retirement from the industry, Charania will join ESPN as a leading basketball news anchor.
ESPN’s MLB Insider Jeff Passan is also reported to be a candidate to replace Wojna Rouksi. Charania responded to Monday’s announcement by saying on social media, “Baseball is better anyway.”
