The Houston Texans have one of the deepest rosters in the NFL thanks to retaining key players, adding new players in free agency and the draft, and making two “blockbuster” trades that acquired veteran stars Joe Mixon and Stefon Diggs.
With a roster as deep as the Texans’, there are bound to be times when not everyone gets the playing time they would like or the attention they would like throughout the game.

One of the strengths of this Houston team is its wide receiver corps, a position group packed with talent including Stefon Diggs, Nico Collins, Tank Dell, Robert Woods, Noah Brown, John Metchie III, Xavier Hutchinson and Ben Skowronek all vying for the attention of quarterback CJ Stroud.
With their deep wide receiver corps, the Texans could potentially consider trading some of the players who were cut from the roster, with the leading candidate likely to be former second-round draft pick John Metchie III out of the University of Alabama, who has shown interest in acquiring the NBA after his preseason success this season.

Metchie III has faced many hardships since coming to the NFL. Prior to his rookie season, Metchie III was diagnosed with acute promyelocytic leukemia and had to go through the process of beating cancer before he could commit to a career as a professional football player. Luckily for him, the type of leukemia he was diagnosed with was one of the most curable types, and he was back on the field before we even knew it.
The diagnosis slowed Metchie III’s development a bit, but he finally seemed to hit his stride this offseason, and teams around the league have taken notice. Metchie, who was a standout collegiate star with the Tide, was highly regarded as a player who could make an immediate impact and could get an opportunity with the Texans or another team if the franchise feels he meets the required requirements.
The Texans have performed well at the position thanks to their roster composition, and the loss of Metchie III would not be a huge loss, especially considering the compensation he would receive.
