Today is the final four games of the MLB postseason, with two crucial Game 3 games in the American League and two Game 4 elimination games in the National League, so the stakes couldn’t be higher.
In the ALDS, the Detroit Tigers will take on the Cleveland Guardians in an early matchup. The series was tied 1-1, and Detroit won 3-0 in Game 2 thanks to Tarik Skubal. He pitched seven innings, allowing just three hits, no walks, and eight strikeouts, but a pinch-hit three-run home run by Kelly Carpenter in the top of the ninth provided all the runs. On Wednesday, Cleveland’s Alex Cobb faced Detroit’s Kayder Montero.
The Royals will then take on the Yankees in Game 3 in Kansas City. KC won Game 2 4-2, giving them home field advantage in the series. Michael Garcia had four hits and Salvador Perez hit a home run for the win. In Game 3, the Yankees will send Clark Schmidt to the mound against Seth Lugo of the Royals.
In the National League, the Phillies have their backs against the wall in Game 4 against the Mets. The pitching battle will pit Philadelphia’s Ranger Suarez against New York’s Jose Quintana. Quintana was a wild card starter against the Brewers and pitched six scoreless innings. He started three games against the Phillies in the regular season, holding Philadelphia batters to a slash line of .224/.274/.259 in the Mets’ three wins.
Finally, in the nightcap, the Padres can defeat the Dodgers with a win in San Diego. The rivalry is so intense that fans have thrown things at players and Manny Machado has drawn the ire of Dave Roberts. The Padres will send Dylan Cease to the mound, but the Dodgers have not yet announced their starting pitcher.
