Former captain Mithali Raj believes India will have a huge advantage over other teams as the conditions in the UAE are similar to those back home. The Women’s T20 World Cup is scheduled to be held in Dubai and Sharjah in the UAE from October 3. The ICC shifted the flagship event from Bangladesh due to political unrest in the country. “The UAE also has very similar conditions so I would say our team has an advantage,” Mithali told Star Sports.
The former batsman, however, warned against complacency and stressed that all teams will come fully prepared for the premier event.
“But every team will come into the World Cup well prepared,” she added.
The Indian women’s team is yet to win their first world title despite reaching the finals of several ICC tournaments, including the Senior World Cup.
“The Indian women’s team has not won anything so far apart from the U-19 World Cup,” Mithali said.
“I definitely hope the team does well because, like everyone else, I want our team to win if we get to the World Cup,” she added. “As an announcer, I’ve just finished my first ever assignment for women’s cricket at the Asia Cup and India lost the Asia Cup so in that sense, I don’t know if it was a blessing in disguise!”
India will begin the match against New Zealand on October 4 in Dubai.
Harmanpreet and team have been drawn in Group A along with Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
