Microsoft users around the world, including banks, reported widespread outages after the company said it was gradually fixing issues affecting access to Microsoft 365 apps and services. Australian news outlets reported that banks were unable to access their computer systems, disrupting services.

Banks in New Zealand also announced they were offline, while in Australia, NAB, Commonwealth and Bendigo banks reported outages.

Microsoft 365 posted on X (formerly Twitter) that the company was “working to reroute affected traffic to alternate systems to more quickly mitigate the impact” and that it was “seeing positive trends in service availability.”
South Africa’s largest bank, Capitec, said it was affected by the global outage. The company said: “Due to an unforeseen issue with our international service provider, there is currently a nationwide service interruption. Please note: card payments and Capitec ATMs are functional and your accounts remain safe. We will resolve the issue as soon as possible and apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
