The fourth-ranked Lions make a quick trip west to take on the hometown Lakers, while De Luxe Burlington puts a 1-1, 2-2 record and undefeated season on the line in a matchup against Bishop Ryan.
Both teams displayed solid defense and hard work up front, but it was down to Bishop Ryan’s passing game to move the ball effectively, leading 12-0 at the end of the first quarter, after both extra-point attempts to score were unsuccessful.
The Lions repeated that effort in the second quarter, with the Lakers finding the end zone. The Lions led 25-8 at halftime.
Bishop Ryan scored two more touchdowns in the third quarter to take the lead by a final score of 39-8.
The Lions host the Surry Mustangs next week, then face Velva/Garrison/Drake-Annamous in a showdown between the top-ranked teams. Prior to the match, Bishop Ryan was ranked No. 4 and Velva was ranked No. 3. Top-ranked Kindred defeated No. 2 Central Cass, 48-7, while Velva beat 2-0, 3-1 Ray/Powers Lake, 54-0, so the rankings could be in flux this week.
De Luxe Burlington will travel to Nedrose next week, host Surry the following week and then face the same Aggies in the regular season finale.
As the season draws to a close, playoff seeding and positioning will be determined with each game.
