Lesotho’s ‘white gold’ is the water which plays an important role in the south African country’s economy.
This is largely due to the Katse dam which, standing at 185m (600 feet) tall, it is Africa’s second largest curved dam.
But despite being water rich the country remains economically poor and its citizens haven’t been feeling the benefits.
Demands have increased for Lesotho’s water from other parts of southern Africa, including South Africa where, in Johannesburg, taps run dry due to its growing populations and climate change.
Government officials have acknowledged the problem and say they are acting to address it.

Same like in Zimbabwe 😢… Zimbabwe government is selling water from Beitbridge to Limpopo province in South Africa 🇿🇦😢…while Zimbabweans citizens don't have running tap water in Beitbridge area…all because of corrupt and greedy politicians 😢😢…Africa we're cursed
From SA i am ashamed. This is not right. My people in lesotho if you need our help we can close down both countries until your water demands are met 1st. SADC we are together we can do this.
Water is life this subject is more important than mere politicians. Corruption is wrong. it's not just taking in trbal law, it's THEFT
BBC ithanda iindaba engazifuni.
Besides this dam, Lesotho has a lot more water.
The snow melts resulting in more water than they can use but the problem is infrastructure for distribution.
i greww up in Limpopo South Africa, I remember my parents fetching water from the river when I was young and buying water from trucks until they managed to do a borehole well. this is sad and it is still happening among all African Countries. These Governments corruption are cruel, water is to be a basic need for everyone
Corruption is more deadly than nuclear weapons..
KGOMO EKASE JESWE BOLOKO. 🦁
Mr. Journalist did you not realise it's because Lesotho's government is getting the money from South Africa and it's not reinvested back into the country. Why is Lesotho's government not held accountable for not investing into essential infrastructure development? Also, did you ask the chief if he and people the village pay rates and taxes… I don't think so. So does the village think everything will fall out of the sky for free :/
Western Media always broadcasting the negative news of africa🤣😭The Largest diamond in the world was found in Botswana but y’all didn’t talk shit about it.
Why isn't Lesotho part of South Africa?
BBC is embarrassing. Misspelling names is another level of disrespect, sek!
It's not just water, it's the roads and the government closing down businesses and putting people out work. A government, we voted for thinking it would bring change. From previous corrupt governments.
So this is how the bbc america and crew plan on making south africa suffer 🙄.. watch my words url find out in time .. planning on slowly shutting down things n making sa suffer slowly
Why mentioning South AFRICA PHO AI NINA
Politicians may come snd Politicians may go, but the lies still stay the same..😢😮😅
I always knew that one day in African there be waterwars Which will be over water and the scarcity of it… It's just a matter of time.😮
South Africa built the dams and pays for the water
Western world highly focused on Africa for everthi ng
Interesting clip
Again we have an issue. Basotho are treated like monsters 👾,dogs etc… We are landlocked by SA so our passports are destroyed by the South Africans at the Brothers. Everywhere we go we have to go through South Africa. We need your help. Please help us.
All Donna's stop your donations to us because cruel politicians use those donations to themselves ❣️💔💔
the dam built by south africa, and need south africa
Damn, politicians would rather benefit foreign nationals first instead of their own citizens. Getting over $200m yearly but not improving or developing water structures for their people, mxm.
This is ridiculous! There is literally a whole body of fresh water behind them. It's pathetic!
The only Solution is they must sign a Memorandum to be part of South Africa 🇿🇦 🤔 that's the only Solution
200 million dollars is small, 1 billion would be fair, so they can have money for social development like water, sanitation, roads, schools and health care centers
more water leaks out of unmaintained pipes than this is a problem in south africa
So with all the NGO's that they have there no one has the motivation to set up a solar powered water pump, large water storage tanks and then decentralised water off-take taps to the villagers….this is basic 101 water in the modern water reticulation systems.
It’s called capitalism
This news channel is spreading propaganda. The west want to punish SA since SA joint BRICS. Dont believe anything from this news channel.
Political leaders in Lesotho are probably just a corrupt as the ANC government the last 30 years in SA
It’s 2% of their annual GDP that they get from royalties, South Africa built and maintained dam and most importantly country still has lots of water but just not building infrastructure to supply it. It’s that simple
Can Lesotho be part of SA already? Merging these countries would be mutually beneficial.
Black evil govt
Same as what Europe is doing in africa. Europe steals uranium in africa to generate electricity yet africa is in the dark
Their government is just something backwards. I think you guys need to tell the world about the Lesotho government. Because most of them come to SA illegally end up being illegal miners, domestic workers and are often exposed to human trafficking in efforts to pursue economic opportunities.
If the Lesotho government wasn't so corrupt they would be prosperous
Thank you for thinking about Basotho first
They only care about the money not people shame on African leaders
Y’all can show the nice side of Africa 2
You can tell how much that government official eats and drinks every day 🙂

Lesotho leaders are the problem not south africa
Great report on a lesser known issue
Man said 2030 as if people can survive for 6 years without water
